Yale Boston and the Yale Club of Eastern Connecticut have joined forces to co-host this first-ever Day of Service event at Yale Myers Forest. Come join Yale alums, friends, and family at Yale Myers Forest, the largest privately owned parcel of land in Connecticut (7,840 acres), to help clean demonstration trails after the winter and in advance of the coming season of walks and talks that serve the greater community. Work will likely include clearing the brush and fallen logs off the trails, repairing steps and railings, and replacing the numbered posts. Professor Mark Ashton will talk about points of interest as we move along. We will provide a picnic lunch. This is a family-friendly event.
Wear long pants, long sleeves, closed shoes, and sunscreen. Bring jackets/sweatshirts, hats, reusable water bottles, work gloves, bug repellent, and any other protective gear you like. The forest has rest facilities and water. Temperatures could be cooler in the forest than in urban areas. Note that the final stretch of the journey to the site consists of a significant stretch on a coarse gravel road to the ample parking area.
The site lies in northeastern Connecticut, not far from Sturbridge, MA. People from the Boston area and other common locales are encouraged to carpool. To offer a ride or see about getting one, check the RideShare page for this event:
